Frequently asked questions
Why does macOS ask for screen recording permission?
BlyndSyde uses Apple's ScreenCaptureKit to overlay and obscure your screen content. macOS requires apps to request permission for this — it's how the app works. Nothing is recorded or sent off-device.
Does BlyndSyde collect my data?
No. BlyndSyde processes everything locally on your Mac. Nothing about your screen, usage, or activity is recorded or sent anywhere. The only network traffic is to Apple's StoreKit, used to verify your subscription. See our Privacy Policy.
How do I calibrate BlyndSyde for best results?
Use the drop down menu in the tool bar (eye icon) and select "Calibrate..." or simply use the global shortcut key, ⌃ + ⌥ + ⌘ + C. For best results, BlyndSyde needs to be optimized for your screen, your particular glasses, and your current lighting conditions. Your eyes are amazing and will adapt with all these, and this in turn affects your color perception. During the development of BlyndSyde, we were amazed at how the human eye see the calibration differently at different times of day.
Why is the screen is harder to read with BlyndSyde activated?
Looking at your screen with light-blocking glasses of any kind will reduce the amount of light reaching your eyes. You can compensate by increasing the screen brightness and also by increasing the font size in the apps you are using. Make sure BlyndSyde is calibrated for your screen, particular glasses, and current lighting conditions. Your eyes are amazing and will adapt with all these and change your color perception.
How do I install BlyndSyde?
Download it from the Mac App Store. BlyndSyde requires macOS 14.0 or later and Screen Recording Permission
What's the global hotkey?
Press ⌃ + ⌥ + ⌘ + B (Control + Option + Command + B) anywhere in macOS to hide or reveal your screen. This combo is not some complicated 'vulcan grip', all three mofidier keys are beside each other at the bottom right of your keyboard
Can I BlyndSyde a Fullscreen window?
Sometimes. A window in true Fullscreen mode cannot be covered by BlyndSyde because by the macOS definition, a FullScreen window is the top window. However, most apps have a 'Fill' or 'Zoom' option in their window menus near the 'Full screen' option. These maximize the window without making it truly Fullscreen, and BlyndSyde works perfectly in this case. In short there is a way around it - make your window as big as possible to fill the screen, without making it, so-called Fullscreen.
